wow that's ugly
I was not referring to the fact that it was a Dell, nor did I say I liked the look of it. I bought a Dell 3 years ago and won't make the same mistake.
Actually, the link I posted didn't lead to the one I was looking at. I was referring to the specs for the XPS 710 H2C
-Intel® Core™2 Extreme QX6700 quad-core processor (8MB,3.2GHz Factory overclocked)
-4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 4 DIMMs
-2TB RAID 0 Multiple Serial ATA Hard Drives
-H2C hybrid cooling system combining a liquid radiator and a thermoelectric cooling module and control circuitry
-AGEIA® PhysXTM physics accelerator
-Sound Blaster X-FiTM XtremeMusic (D)
It impressed me. Then again, I don't know a whole lot about computer hardware.

You could make one out of fiberglass. Use some fancy psus and fans w/ lights. Maybe water cooling. My uncle built one..it was pretty cool looking in the dark. ;/
The base for a good computer, depending of what you want to do:
Mother Board and processor:
Intel or AMD are the most popular, good quality and not too expensive. Also, think and get a motherboard & chip compatible with window Vista, a standart card doesnt work with it.
Memory or Ram: You need at least a gig of ram ( 2 x 512 mb ) but if you plan to have a good computer for the next couple of years, go for 2 gig ( 2 x 1024mb)
Hard Drive:
150 to 250 Gigabytes is fine, enough of space to fite all your music, game and movies.
Sound Card:
About anything is fine, the people at your store will be able to give better information on the little difference between each card.
Video Card:
ATI is a good builder, so is Matrox. Something recent or even a double slot card if you are a powergamer
The case:
The liquid ventilation is often more a show off instead of a real plus to a computer. A good case should have multiple venting openning with some extra fan to help remove the hot air.
Powersupply :
Upgrade your powersupply to something around 500 to 600w to cover the extra use of energie.
Cd Rom: The best combo is a dvd reader and a dvd burner so you can read an copy any disc you want.
Ethernet card:
The technologie is going toward bluetoot, so gething a wireless bluetoot card could be a good idea, depending of your needs.
For the rest, it pretty much up to the design and what is available at the store near you. For more advise on the best combo, we need more info on your use of the computer.
Good luck in your search

What do yous prefer:
Intel or AMD
I wont have a dell, burning my money is more usefull than a dell.

I just built my own computer and I'm going to say this. Don't get a DirectX10 card now, wait until later. Get a 7600GT and satisfy yourself with that. I got an 8800GTX and I kind of regret it now, sure it pwns noobs and everything, but its price will drop substantially in the months to come.
Your icon is sexy.
I stole it from ben who stole it from you ;)

the intel core 2 duo is currently the best processer out there, so I would go with that. Also if you can go with an nvidia graphic card over ATI possibly in the 8000 series because they are just great compared to the ATI/AMD cards right now.
