To Fantasy/Sci Fy Book Readers/Fans. 20 replies
Hello, all. As some of you may or may not know, I am a fan of fantasy and science fiction books. Mainly in the medieval genre however I've read my fair share of present/future settings as well. Some of my favorite series include WoT by Robert Jordan and many of the, obviously since my name came from there, Forgotten Realms series. FR is actually what first got me into reading and I became addicted. I remember one summer quite a long time ago I spent it almost entirely reading books. You'd think it'd be a relatively healthy habit, but I'm one of those people that can't start a story and not finish it so I would stay up for over 20 hours sometimes to finish a book that I started. I've read too many books from too many authors and too many series to list them off all now, so I won't try too and I'll try to get to the point. Any of this might sound sad or depressing to whoever decides to take it this way out there but it was what I chose to do and the reality of it is, I had a blast doing it. Being able to immerse yourself in a story and another world is a great thing, or at least, that's how I feel.
For a couple years now, I've known that I myself have the imagination to write a book in the similar genre as those I've mentioned but up until about a year ago, I never did anything about it. That changed when I got the night shift at a really slow paced job so when I had time to myself, I spent it writing my story. During that time I realized that my passion for reading also made me develop a passion for writing. I've written some odd stories here and there before, but nothing that I've finished and nothing quite as big as the project that I'm entertaining now.
My problem was, I got a writer's block and I couldn't find myself writing for months but lately I've felt the urge again and have been writing again, finally. In the same way I know myself, I know that I will be able to write a big chunk of what I wanted too before I get another block. Now, for the real point. I'm wondering if anyone out there would like to read some of my first chapters, once they are done and give me advice/tell me how they like it. Obviously I'd like for people to have read books of the genre beforehand so they have something to compare it too, but of course commentary wouldn't be necessary. If you would like to read it just to read it, then by all means.
Of course, since I am not a very trusting person, any work that I have done and send to you will already be dated and 'copyrighted' by me so if any one tries to steal my work you'll find yourself in some trouble, though I don't honestly expect that from anyone but it's been done before so I will take the appropriate measures to protect my writing. As an aspiring author, I'm doing this for any kind of feed back that would help me become a better writer and share my stories with the people that share the same passion. I think it would also help spur me along knowing that there are people who are waiting for those chapters, so in a sense I'm also doing it as motivation but of course, writing is a slow process, so you would still have to be patient about it. As much as I enjoy writing, I'll likely be getting a full-time job in the coming days as well as playing games with friends and going out when friends are in town.
If you understand all this then please, leave your e-mail in this thread and I will keep note of it and once I deem there is enough work to keep you reading for a while, I will gladly send my work.

I haven't read m(any) sci-fi/fantasy books but I'd be interested in reading what you've wrote. I'm a decent proof-reader so I could help in that sense.

Lol, alright I've got all your e-mails saved. I'm not sure when I'll deem there's enough but as a start once I'm done chapter 1 (Not sure yet how long it will be but I've been working on it for a while already) I'll send that along with the Prologue. Might as well get comments early on.

Wow, that sounds like how I was with books for a while before I got into drawing. It was that style of books that infuenced my drawing greatly. I tried writing, but I never got that far into the story before I got stuck. I would really love to read what you have written. ^^

If the imagery is good I might try drawing some of the characters if you wouldn't mind. I would get your permission first, of course, since they belong to you.

I'd like to read what you've got, if you don't mind.
I'm working on a fantasy novel, myself . Haven't really written much, but I think it's good so far. :)
