I was on your blog and downloaded Telepathic With the Deceased and ended up pretty much downloading everything. It's all really good. Thanks.

As I once said to myself: "Quit talking to yourself."

Isn't that RIGHT?

I don't really see why you posted this as...

1. He is not inactive as he replied to a thread within a few days and he's sure to check a thread with his user name on it.

2. I can't seem to contact him anywhere else and I just wanted to thank him for providing links to some music downloads I enjoyed.

That was neither funny or clever.

Oh yeah, I was going to actually do something with that blog. I should really.:)

I'm glad you enjoyed it, but I have NO idea how you found it, since it's not linked anywhere. I don't even know the address (but I do know the 26 character password!). (I, I, I...) So can you tell me what the address is?!

I'm not sure what I posted, but I think it was everything I posted on an MP3 forum. I think everything I posted is black metal.

If you liked the stuff by Xasthur (Telepathic With Deceased), you might want to check out Leviathan and Lurker of Chalice. They're both the same guy, but LoC is much better; I don't like Leviathan much.

If you liked Astrofaes, check out Drudkh, Hate Forest, and Nokturnal Mortum. They share common members and all have a similar sound.

If you liked the stuff by Forest (In the Harvest..., Like a Blaze...), search for Blazebirth Hall. They're a bunch of Russian nationalist bands and they all sound very similar with a raw, unproduced sound.

You'll also want to check out Burzum (Hvis Lyset Tar Oss), Emperor (In the Nightside Eclipse, Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk), Darkthrone (anything before around '96, and Transylvanian Hunger especially), and Gorgoroth (any album, really).

Good luck; if you want some more recommendations, email me (not.taken.yet a*t gmail.com)

It was on your homepage a few weeks ago but I didn't go to it until a few days ago. Some of them are listed on your Soul Seek page. The address is

truemetalonly.blogspot.com

Before I usually listened to death and trash but now black is pretty much my favorite genre of metal. It's dark and eerie with lyrics that echo it's excellent.

I also have another question. I remember I used to use Soul Seek after a friend recommended it as a good music p2p program but I can't get it to work. When I open the program it connects me to it but when I search something it disconnects. To I need a user name or something? Thanks.

Trash = Thrash =\

I don't remember how, but yes you need a username. It's pretty simple to use, but super annoying because so many people have crap uploads.

And trash is the correct spelling of thrash.=) (Except for Destroyer 666; they're pwnage, especially the first album.)

What kind of DM did/do you listen to? All I've ever found that I enjoy (besides black/death metal) is Nile. Grindcore is better, IMO, if only for the hilarious lyrics and stupid vocals.=)

[Added at 09/03/2007 01:55:35 by Dondon]
Oh yeah and some more recommendations.

Agalloch (folk/black metal)
Falkenbach (same)
Krieg (black metal)
Grand Belial's Key* (black metal)
Destroyer 666 (black/thrash/death metal)
Judas Iscariot (black metal)
Graveland* (black metal)
Elysian Blaze (funeral doom/black metal)
Absurd* (black metal; only get Facta Loquuntur)
Satanic Warmaster (black metal)
Anti (black metal)
Animus (black metal)
Birkenau/I Shalt Become (black metal)
Darkspace (black metal)
Enslaved (black metal)
Forest of Fog (black metal)
Fullmoon* (black metal)
Ildjarn (black metal/ambient)
Sort Vokter (black metal)
Silencer (black metal)
Vlad Tepes (black metal)
Wolves in the Throne Room (black metal)

Bands marked with an * arguably support NS ideology, so if you can't ignore the lyrics or are a (fill in the blank), skip it. A lot of bands are accused of being Nazis, but basically none are actually serious. Most are from Eastern Europe anyway, so they're probably not anyway. (Remember to distinguish between Nazism and national socialism or you'll sound like every other blubbering retard on metal forums).

A good metal forum is www.metal-archives.com. The site is great and has tons of reviews and bands. You'll find music from every metal genre (no -core crap or nu-metal) which will keep you busy forever.

Top 5 of that list and best album(s):
Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain; The Mantle
Destroyter 666 - Unchain the Wolves

Usually just some random stuff like Slayer and Children of Bodom. Me and my friends used to really like grindcore but now we just make fun of it.

I mean I really liked it. but now I see how repetitive it is.

One more edit;

I checked out metal-archives it's cool. Lots of band listed. Also on the topic of death metal I don't really listen to those bands that much anymore. Everyone is being gay like Slayer's new album. Black is the way to go :P

Real metal subgenres:
black
death
power
heavy
speed
thrash
progressive
doom
folk

That's too many? You can get rid of speed and progressive even, since speed is associated with a lot of early big name heavy metal or power acts, and progressive rarely sounds "metal" enough.

Where is melodic/symphonic metal in that list?

Melodic DM is either close to DM or close to metalcore crap, so it can be included in DM or excluded with metalcore. There's melodic black metal, but it's usually pretty close to black metal.

Symphonic is more of a "quality" of metal, just like melodic, except it's more varied. It can be good like Emperor or bad like Dimmu Borgir. Symphonic black metal, power metal, etc. It's like viking metal, which can be anything really.

[Added at 09/04/2007 00:52:38 by Dondon]
Better explanation:
Have you ever heard of melodic metal or symphonic metal? No. It's always "melodic X metal" or "symphonic X metal."

I think melodic metal is classified by the lyrics, I guess similar to some "flowermetal" power bands for instance mastodon sings in deep "hardcore" growls but then part of the song is a higher pitch with musical tone. It sounds like an eight year old girl >:(

Ever heard Blind Guardian? That's symphonic metal and it'll sound metal enough for you, I guarantee.

Rhapsody is also very good at symphonic metal.

Speed metal would be more like Demons & Wizards or Quo Vadis.

So yea...symphonic metral IS a genre if its own...and its REALLY awesome.

Yeah, I suppose.

Also about avoiding bands with Nazi supporting lyrics it doesn't matter. 95% of Black metal has satanic lyrics which my dad wouldn't really approve of so it matters not.

Thanks again for all the bands and stuff :P

BG is power.
Rhapsody is symphonic power I think (I've only heard one album and it sucked).

Demons and Wizards is horrid, but it's power metal. Quo Vadis is melodic death.

Symphonic metal can be good or bad, but I find it's mostly cheesy power metal with too many keyboards.

T3rran, barely any black metal is actually Satanic. Can you even understand the lyrics?!
Warez.TC said on: 2007-09-06 01:43 pm

No, I can't understand the lyrics. Even in grindcore I sometimes can but in Black they blend in with the riffs so no. I also assumed because a lot of song names. I was reading Xasthur's page on wikipedia and it said..

Although similar in terms of low-fi production and the wearing of corpse paint, musically and lyrically Xasthur's focus is not on paganism, Satanism or anti-Christian blasphemy – as is common in the genre – but rather on astral projection, darkness, despair, suicide, hate, and death.

I guess I may have exaggerated the percentage.

Wikipedia is incredibly biased on almost anything non-academic. If it can't be backed up by research, people slowly sway the article how they want it to be. If it's an unpopular (in views) article, someone can say whatever they want and chances are it won't be changed. If the actual facts are unpopular to the core group of Wikipedia ediots who aren't committed to the rules, the article will become totally false.

Metal-related articles are no different.

Wikipedia is actually a great resource, but mostly for it's "additional links" at the bottom of the articles. Even then, everything factual is cited, and as with any encyclopedia you have to take some things with a grain of salt.

Don't shut yourself out of the best encyclopedia on the web.

I actually read Wikipedia a ton, and probably rely on it too much for information. Rather than searching Google, I search Wikipedia. It's great for big articles (or those filled automatically, like city stats) where the bias is gone, but small articles are laughable a lot of the time.

Hardcore as in hardcore punk? Punk isn't metal. The line often blurs when genres are mixed, but punk is punk. Metalcore isn't metal unless it's more metal than hardcore.

Metal is an extremely diverse genre, which is why it needs so many subgenres. It could be better organized if extreme metal and "non extreme" metal were two entirely separate genres.

JFAC is deathcore.

Waking the Cadaver sounds close to brutal death metal, which is supported by Metal-archive's description as brutal deathcore.

The video on Google had a piece of brie as the thumbnail, which was a dead giveaway.:P
