No, seriously. The water supply sucks because of the drought. Some places only have a couple of months worth of water left if it stays this way. Lake Lanier is dropping 1.7ft a day because of it.
You know when we run out of clean water we're just gonna use the ALREADY INVENTED salted water processing. Keep in mind like 70% of Earth is water and yea...keep on cleaning your driveway with clean water :)

All I've read here are mainly stupid answers. You guys must be kidding! I hope you're aware that even if we can transform salted water into potable water with a (expensive) process we mostly already know about, clean water provides habitat for millions of animal species. Think about it... If a decrease of not even half a Celsius degree has such a big impact on Earth, what about no more clean water?
Please, be logical and don't tell me we shouldn't care about clean water quantities and it's importance.

Clean water is only clean once it reaches our sinks and baths. When we're done making it dirty, we throw it back into rivers, lakes and such. When we start cleaning salted water, we're not gonna send back the used water into the sea -.- It's going to be sent in rivers and lakes. Which basically means it doesnt matter.

So, basically, you're telling me that, for example and since you also live near from Montreal, someone's actually going to build a big pipe (or some equivalent transportation system) to bring our used water from the city up to the Rivière La Grande in the northen Quebec?

Remember, everything is a matter of money. Once ecosystems will be destroyed, nobody's going to care about them anymore and they'll be lost forever. Complete lack of clear water is something i'd be VERY surprised to see happen.

Humans have relatively weak immune systems and bodies compared to most animals. What we can't drink it perfectly health for a lot of species.

You must be aware that Quebec's economy and energy supplies are based on hydroelectric devices installed mostly in the north of the province. If we ever come across the point of a more than critical reservoir level, how are we going to get our electricity and the money out of it?
But enough talking about Quebec, as we know we're lucky on that point, we have a lot of blue gold. However, elsewhere, the situation is more alarming. Stupid actions such as building an entire city, without any restrictions regarding the clean water consummation, in the middle of a desert, keeping it alive by sulking the last milliliters of water in the Colorado River are leading to a mondial crisis.
So please Sal, PLEASE! Even if the situation in Quebec might not be that dramatic, do not tell everybody on the internet to keep cleaning their driveway and using clean water for whatever else non necessary usage. earths water can not run out, look at the way the human body works for proof, we take in water, we (just like sal said) sweat and urinate it out, urine and sweat go down drains(and in some cases on the sidewalk) drains take the waste to either a purification plant where it is purified and sent back into the river,lake whatever where you originaly got the water from, or its sent directly back with no purification and is purified naturaly through being evaporated and rained back down.

Water is totally recyclable and if we filter it enough, even sewage water is 100% healthy. Of course if we let it all run into the ocean, it will be much harder to recover.
However, it is difficult to clean dirty water. Other chemical contaminants much be removed either physically or chemically. These chemicals are expensive and they must be handled safely. This will mean water will one day be more expensive and WILL have to be much better handled.
I think a good way to conserve "healthy" water would be to supply toilets (biggest source of water usage in residential areas) with "locally recycled" water (i.e., from shower drain or sink) before sending it to the treatment plant or runoff (my city, of 300k and the capital of BC, dumps sewage water, untreated, into the Pacific). Nah I only drink it when its really cold, I cant stand drinking warm/hot water.
