What movies do you consider the greatest? 11 replies
Anyone have a list of movies they consider exceptionally good?
For me it's Fight Club and Pulp Fiction. Plenty of other movies I enjoyed immensely like Scarface and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas but those two are my favorites I suppose.

I don't think the saw series is exceptionally good. Clever story though. I'll watch the fifth.
Saw is what made the latest horror movies show more of the gore scenes. I thank them. I was bored with the usual

It takes more than gore to make a good horror movie.
Personally, I like 28 Weeks Later. Wouldn't say it's the best, but it was fun to watch.
Cranked is a good movie too. It has an interesting plot. Look into it sometime.

Horror Movies are supposed to be horrific.
Just like Thrillers and Suspense movies are supposed to keep you thrilled.
Gore is horrific, while "knowing that someone will get killed sooner or later" is thrilling.
I watch Horror movies expecting horror.

It's tough, but I'd have to go with either Super Mario Bros. or Mortal Kombat II.
Psychological horror has more of an impact than straight up gore. When the two are combined properly the terror can be extremely compelling and leave people scared.
A good example of that would be the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. While they are somewhat laughable now they were pretty scray for their time; not just because of the grizzly deaths, but because of the psychology surrounding the fact that he would attack you in a place where you're totally vulnerable: your dreams.

GORE IS NOT SCARY KTHX
When it's thrown in your face fullscreen, out of nowhere, you'll jump. But you'd also jump if it was an image of a kitten. The sudden change is what your brain perceives as scary, not the image. You don't even have time to process the image by the time you've jumped.
