Your post was actually even more predictable than theirs. There is always the one person who says how despicable everyone else is being as if he stands on a higher moral ground.
If you think your morals are higher than another, if you want to be the 'good' person, then that private knowledge to yourself should be enough. By publicizing it, this indicates that you are simply taking that stance to be seen as the good guy and thus are only in it for the image. Self-knowledge is enough, so long as you are not encouraging or perpetrating the incident, you make yourself a better person.

My point is that you over exaggerated the situation. There's a difference between being 'good' and wanting to be the 'hero'. The very few comments made in that direction (one of which you posted afterward, Sal's, so you'd already seen it but weren't offended by it at that time I guess?) did not warrant your to the rescue post.

Acknowledging my 'predictable' post automatically undermines yours, since you are agreeing that you see the pattern =.= It's pretty obvious... there's no need to apply any philosophy to that. People's opinions and viewpoints aren't lowered simply because they're posted online. It was just one of many I read. His was the best articulated, I think, and made the most sense to me. It pretty much eliminated the remaining arguments I had, or close to it, that I was convinced. I read quite a bit, and most of it is philosophical just because I enjoy debates that no one can win.
For example, I've recently taken an interest in the view points that Bruce Lee adapted of life. I've read pretty much everything there is to know about him at this point. I've learned quite a bit about myself from it. I think with a bit more time I would have ended up with his viewpoint, but he was a few years ahead of me. Reading about him also allowed me to learn more about the philosophies he was interested in. It led me to delve deeper into Taoism, Jiddu Krishnamurti, Buddhism... and branching from those, Determinism, Detachment, Cognitive Perspective.

We can all sit and think about and consider the never-ending views, philosophies, and possibilities of the world, and that is not wrong, but there comes a time when simplicity serves us best.

@Elm I read the first paragraph and sideo's post and gathered that your post has to do with scripting. That no person is truelly selfless due to the fact they have been programmed to react in such ways. If I'm correct in that then my rebuttal would probably be something to the tune of... The selfless action comes first and the realization and justification come after. Everyone's first action or reaction would be selfless or to save the child, in a pure state of mind and all other inactions or actions come from societal scripting.

@Elm I read the first paragraph and sideo's post and gathered that your post has to do with scripting. That no person is truelly selfless due to the fact they have been programmed to react in such ways. If I'm correct in that then my rebuttal would probably be something to the tune of... The selfless action comes first and the realization and justification come after. Everyone's first action or reaction would be selfless or to save the child, in a pure state of mind and all other inactions or actions come from societal scripting.
