Same here, I loved the custom games on WC3 & SC1, even more so than the standard melee match ups. I can't wait to see some remade old maps and brand new maps under the new system.

Okay, this is starting to piss me off. Somebody give me a brief strategy... I can usually make it to like wave 55 or so on Normal. Do I spend money mainly on levelling up, or on buying power-ups? Do I use Strong, Fast, or Neutral smileys? Which Costume combos do you use?
You need to place your towers strategically.
Making towers that hit a target only once is dumb.
Also don't concentrate on making a licoln log load of towers. You need to boost up the ones you have first.
Be smart about the stuff you buy for your towers. Slow and poison each last 5 seconds so place a splash poison and splash slow tower in a way that targets are constantly slowed/poisoned.
Also place confuse towers in areas where you have the most fire power. Place teleport towers where you have the least fire power.
The tower you should have the most of is a red lvl 5 huge splash double damage. Icefox likes to use triple damage, but double damage has a higher chance to deal its damage.
You can get 2 or 3 health steal towers and money steal.
I also make some instant death, machine gun, fast towers. When those are lvl 5, they have a delay of 9 which is extremely fast, so much higher chance to cause instant death.
All your poison, money steal, health steal, slow towers should be set to fast.
That good enough for ya? :D

A lot of that is stuff I already figured out, but a few pointers were helpful.

Finishing the game on other maps is pretty tough. I cleared it on 2 other maps so far.
Yea, I've only cleared two on Insane as well, but I'm trying to improve that.
