Clan Ranking System 20 replies
Okay, here's my thought.
The Round Clan Ranking system we have (that Tony put up in the forums) is brutal. It encourages numbers.
The way to fix this:
Divide the total clan score by the number of members in the clan.
IE: Nirvana scored 400 points, but has 20 members, therefore, they get a score of 400/20 = 20.
SO. While having a big clan helps knock other clans off the rankings, it ALSO lowers your clan's overall tech score. Thoughts?

I like it
Thats the best idea ive EVER heard, congrats Peter
I'll do that from now on if nobody has any objections.
i oblect!
sounds good
i dont like simply because think the higher ranker's points should count for more. they did better so they should be recognized. its like a sports team. the teams overall rating isnt determined by the number of players, but rather the quality.
...quality over quantity!
I don't understand it so I wouldn't know :P
Like AK, I disagree with the idea.
It defeats the point of having a large clan. AK explained it well.

And that's nearly exactly what the ranking system does...It takes the average tech of the clan. Well instead, you're going to take the average points for ranking. Unless the games are large between ranks, like 10's, you will get the exact same clan rankings. Do the math.
1ST: Nirvana: 429 / 21 = 20.42
2ND: Avengers: 244 / 6 = 40.66
3RD: Chattan: 214 / 8 = 26.75
4TH: Devils Knights: 153 + 5 = 30.6
I don't remember the order of the clan ranks, but it looks about right
Avengers
DK
Chattan
Nirvana
And thats just with the ones ranked. If we added the non rankers, itd be perfectly accurate and the same.

It's unofficial. Why not do both?
Because the system now that nations has does that for you.

except it does it by tech, not points based off another system we thought up.
I like the idea
Gemz- That's the idea.
This is the only way to prevent Nirvana from dominating the alternate ranking.
If you have 45-50 members of the clan, you can EASILY occupy 25-30 spots on the rankings.
How?
The other 20 players in the clan would just mass the living daylights out of anyone who isn't in their clan.
SO, we make it a penalty to have absurdly large clans.
In this sense, AK, it IS about quality.
The current system rewards the clan who's BEST PLAYERS are the best.
But a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. SO, the new system rewards teh clan with the HIGHEST PERCENTAGE of ranked players.
In theory, right now, you could have only 8 ranked members, out of a clan of 70, and still win. But if you have 62 unranked players, shouldn't that be taken into consideration?
Quality, you said, over quantity.
The current system, where only ranked players are considered, would be similar to the Nations Clan Ranks being based on TOTAL tech, not average.
And we ALL know that that would suck for a clan like IC, who has only 6-7 members.

Does no one get the fact that by calculating another set of alternative clan rankings you're not changing anything? Its just another way to view the final results.
Indeed, it IS just another way of viewing the final results, but remember CL:
The reason we created it was because the Clan Ranking system in Nations was TERRIBLE. Average Tech? That has way too many factors other than skill to determine it.

But if someone has 20+ memebers that rank.
They should win the alterntive rankings.
They should win the alterntive rankings.
^what gemz said...
Who cares?!
No one really remembers the alternate rankings much more than a few days after a round is over anyway. It's not like posting both is going to hurt or help or even change anything.

I guess I dont understand your point then Illidan. ChaoticLaw and I think Gemz are the only ones that understand the point i made in my first post. If you do the alternate rankings and then divide by the number in the clan, it will be EXACTLY the same results as the current system. So whats the point? Maybe I missed something along the way. The alternate point system is the only way to reward clans with lower numbers because you can rank high with those few members and beat a clan that ranks 10 in the bottom half. Dividing the alternate score only makes it like an average clan tech, which is what the "official" clan ranking does. The only difference between the average of the alternate rankings in a clan and the average tech in a clan, is that the clans will have closer scores, but the order will remain 100% the same.
Hopefully you guys understand that all lol.

I'm trying to minimize the advantage of size.
Regardless, if you read my other post about completely revamping the clan system, this is all moot anyway. But I like my other ideas :P
