Quest To The GREAT TL 34 replies
Ok people im fed up of seeing TL in this horrible state.
Im on a quest to get activity to this place and when i say that i mean people crawling through this place, making it hard for you to keep threads on the front page etc.
My first point of call will be to try and convince the oldbies of the golden age to make a comback, i belive this will provoke more people to return.
I will keep this thread updated and keep you informed on what im doing but i WILL make TL GREAT again.
And any help will be greatly appreciated.

darkdeath, this has happened many times. You need to read a few threads before making this one. You arn't some great oldbie that can just come back and make things right. So instead of making this bold thread, why don't you stop typing and start playing.

I'm down for another war, maybe in December...
Umm Tina saying things like that is exactly the problem. Somone who tries to get things back on track gets there heads bitten off by someone that wants the same thing.
I have been playing but i also want to rasie mps and unless you havnt notice there isnt anyone else in the mp arena anymore.
It shouldnt matter if im a great oldbie or not the point is somone needs to not only post on here but talk to the oldbies to see what they want, but you know, seeing how youve done such a great job yourself of getting TL active again with your war.
And done bother saying ur war did get people active because 10 people for like 3 days isnt the activity we need.

You just dont get it, how is it that you are saying i havnt put any thought into my actiions. How exactly did you think that war was going to increase TL activity when there isnt anyone here in the first place.
And i think your way off the mark saying that oldbies isnt the main way to make people come back, people like Flindy, Mogdog, and even Liquid bring not only themselves but also many others with them.
Secondly you have no idea how much thought i have put into it, ive been talking to numerous people who know TL more than Me and You to see how i can fix the situation and what have you done? Made a war that didnt fix anything, I dont want to get into a fight i just dont like people telling me things they know nothing about, i have put thought into this, and if you dont like what im doing dont post its quite simple.

Hey nice to see karl wanting to start another TL craze over here. I'll probably pop in once in a while, since i wouldn't have time to play like i did last time. And my guess is most of the so called "oldbies" would do that too.

Actually it made perfect sense (learn to spell). You are just too slow to understand, obviously.
I'm not here to get into a "flame war".
Anyways, enough is enough, Now you are going about dissing what has already been accomplished before you have even started? I'm sorry, but as far as I see that war brought more good times and a little activity. And that's what TL is about, enjoying it, who cares if it's not being played by "30+" people at once. That will most likely not happen in a while (not trying to jynx TL). I'm just saying alot of the "oldbies" that used to play TL quit, and usually for a reason, like having a personal life. And tl, well to get anywhere in that you either cheat, or don't have a "life".
Nations will always be around because it takes a little thought and experience, yet you can finish a day's worth in 10 minutes, so it's good for everyone, busy or not. (using it as an example) TL just isn't that, I'm sure bringing back the "oldbies" won't increase the activity by alot, maybe some...but not alot.
All I have to say is:
Until some major updates have been made (hopeing TS has it under control) it just won't get very active.
This is my last post here, I don't like being in "debates" with people.

Ok this is getting out of Hand, If i offended Tina please accept my apolgie. Im just trying my hardest to help TL. Entity-Neo the post was not made to start arguments it was made to help TL so lets keep it that way.
I wonder how many of the people who have tried to bring back the "glory days" (or whatever they call them) even remember them?
Because I think during those times there weren't much more than ten or so active members of the community. Although I have a bad perspective on those times (before the NN reset, or void, or downtime, or whatever you might call it) because I was one of the inactive people then. I would join clans, but not participate in any wars or forum discussions.
After that time when NN first looked like this, people were talking then about the old days. Which brings up another good question. What old times are people talking about now?

TL will never return to its activity 2 or 3 years ago even. It would be nice if it did, if only to make the hours and hours wasted not seem like they were for nothing.:) But face it: TL needs players brought from outside the community. It's like recycling a sheet of paper: eventually, its fibers will be too damaged to form anything. Players will eventually leave forever, and thus the pool of players is reduced, and eventually TL dies. Want activity? Bring in players from other games, other forums. But, please, make sure they're not a bunch of newbs like I see now.:/
adding new features will not be possible if new admins where appointed which has no access to the code. adding new weapons, armours, items and monsters can be done by accessing the database if permitted to the new admin.
features like allowing the user to enter another password for deposit/withdraw transactions can be done by editing the code. do you think the new appointed admin is permitted to do that? only the programmer can alter the code.
anyway suggested features where unanswered for ages and for the admins dont let people hope for nothing. in a couple of days we will see another thread for the new admin and posting new suggestions and updates. HISTORY repeats itself ^^

The weapons, armor, items, ranks, monsters, and so on are all hard coded, I think. In fact I think the only things in TL's db are user related.
It's programed in Perl/CGI, probably as something Tom threw together while just learning how to make a game. It was made around 1998 I think. So even if a new admin was given acess, they probably wouldn't be able to make heads or tails of it, Tar told me he struggled through it and had a hard time just understanding how the random mob encounters work, and Tars good with this stuff. So for an average web-accustomed programmer that would probably be found to help here, it would be like asking a high school psychology student to help Hanibal Lecter through his mental problems.

Darkdeath, many of the oldbies have tried to lure back some people, however due to the repetiveness, its hard, especially when some of the oldbies have had alot change in their lifes.
