The game is better without techs, encourgaes people to go on and use their turns. Whereas, when using techs, if your tech partners don't do 4's its not beneficial to you.

This way everyone is more on a level playing field.

If Nations is a war game, the only alliances that would be needed are offense and defense alliances, no?
