Personal question... 64 replies
ok so when people here think of all the great techers/round winners of Nations, people list thebest, pic, sal, and now even bc but im somehow not acknowledged on the same level... even after winning 5 rounds and being in top 5 for 13 of 28 ranked rounds. now i dont disagree with the above players being the most dominant techers of Nations, but i ask, what puts me at the bottom?
this is just a question thats been on my mind for a while and i figure the best way to better understand it is to put it out there...so whats your reasoning if you are indeed a believer of the notation above?
1) You never retire but say your going to all the time :P
what does that have to do with anything?
besides, ive claimed 3 times i was going to retire. 1st time, it was under my KS account and it was a lie...just made the AK account and wanted to start over so to speak. the other 2 times, i admit, i was planning on going through with it but face it...im addicted. the last time i was supposedly retiring(though i NEVER said i was)...i was taking a break...which i did.
Hmm, recognition doesn't come to those who look for it.

I doubt very much that you have been branded as the scourge of Nations and pushed the bottom of the list of competent players.
Recognition is shown to those players who have shown dedication to the Game countless times, be it in the game as well as in the forums. The players that you have listed above do show these qualities, from TheBest's beginnings of numerous clans that have last several years to Sal and his many antics that make people remember him or even BC's antics as well which pushed him to the level of being a moderator for this site. These players have shown the dedication and appreciation to be given the title of true Nation players.
Its not only your tech that people judge you upon, its is your character that you portray outside of the game that will give you the characteristics of a "great techer/round winners of Nations" as you put it.
Besides, does it really matter what other people think of you? its only an online game...

AK, it is not that your not one of the best players at all. It is simply like Slugster, whom seems to know a little about the days of old, said. Those that have been here for ever and dominated all the periods of this game not just mainly one period of the game are better remembered by those that you respect.
BC Sal and Besty, even Goliath and others without the wins will always have their place in the "hall of fame" due to their eras of play my friend.
People simply remember the oldbies because they are oldbies :) As has bees said a couple times, all good things come to those that wait :)

i completely understand your point of view slugster...but note this, i am specifically speaking about the tech portion of the game. i understand what BC, sal, etc have brought to the game, outside of teching; being mods, making acknowledged clans, making new or bettering tactics, etc. what im saying is, what does one do to get the acknowledgement of being an elite techer?
in regards to caring or not caring about what people think and that its only an online game...you are absolutely right. but keep in mind, i am one of the more active members of Nations and throughout the years, have developed enough respect for members of the community that their opinions would and do matter.(ex: loki, bc, stormy, thruster,etc). so either way, these opinions do matter, whether in person or through online gaming. now the degree of how you take these opinions is the icing on the cake so to speak.
This is what i think about this game.
*Theres not enough people who play this game
*Theres not enough elite players. (at the end of every round theres about a 80-90 tech point difference between 1st and 50th. BOTTOM LINE:Little competition
*Since its too small of a community, noobs often get bullied and quit.
My opinion: People want to be the next legend on this game. Guys its a tiny little RPG game that .0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000098% of the world knows of. Its fun to us but we are among a rare few. If people were like us, so many more people would be playing this game. AK people might not look up to you like you may want, but why do you care so much?
im being misunderstood. all i am questioning is the lack of acknowledgement of me as a "techer". nothing more...nothing less. im am not debating whether i should be looked up to or be praised every 2 secs of my life...what im saying is, what makes me so different from gamers like bc, thebest, sal, pic, etc to the point that i am not mentioned as one of the elite "techers". i just dont follow people and wonder why that might be (that im at the bottom of the list so to speak).
thats all! didnt mean to make it an "AK doesnt feel appreciated" or "AK needs attention" thing. its more of a "why am i not on the same level" type of ordeal.

moon not to put you on the spot but...remember when you won your 1st round? you knocked off gijoe who was thought to be a good friend of yours and vice-versa? when people started bashing you about it, that got to you. thats an example of acknowledging what other people here are saying to/about you.
AK - The answer has basically already been stated. Players don't gain the recognition of being the best "Techers" simply off teching alone. Though, that has much to do with it.
Moon - I believe this site to have much potential. Not many may know about it, even though there was a considerable number of people coming here back 5 years ago, I believe that it can build back up there if it had a considerable amount of revolutionary changes... I think there are still a vast amount of old school geeks out there that may be interested in a game like this.

Well i think your good! But to go off topic a bit! Why is the game not more wars based! There should be more ways to hurt a players game! Its more of a sit and wait then a war game! And straights can only go so far in difference here.

Simply put, the war side of the game needs to be completely redeveloped into something more strategical. Researchs like Weapons, Offense, and defense need to start carrying some sort of value reflected towards attacking and defending. Military units also need some sort of value to determine the outcome in a different way.

AK, what people are trying to say is just because you're a good techer don't mean everyone is gonna want you. There are more things to it. It's like popularity. You can't just have one good characteristic...gotta have more than that to be wanted.

I have no idea why ppl feel the way they do AK.
But I’ve always thought of you as one of the top players here – actually I ‘d rank you higher then most of the so called ‘great’ players here. You’d be in my top 5 – that’s for sure. (Probably top 3)
You’re one of those players who can win without a massive team backing you, and I really respect that. And with some of your wins in the past, ppl were out to get you and you were still able to rise above it.

From my limited experience BC always has the highest base when he plays. Also, I haven't really been around when pic tried to win rounds but he has won 5 or was it 6? That's a huge accomplishment. Good job guys!

lol confirmed, Pic has won 6 rounds making him the winner of the most rounds. WTH crazy, nice job pic.

Nook, AK won in 66 when BC had one of the best pre rises since after 56.

I do not believe that you are being misunderstood. What the players of nations are trying to tell you is that you could have been the greatest player in all of nations winning EVERY single round single handedly, but that still would make you the greatest player out there.
You ask what one must do to become known as an "Elite Techer". My answer is simple, There is no such thing. If all you strive for is to be the best at the game in terms of tech and winning rounds then you will most likely become known as "that guy". To truly be known throughout nations as a true player you must embody all the emotions of what the past players have done, be formal in the forums from time to time, help a newb out, do not rant and rave all over the place if something doesn't go your way. I am not saying that you do not do this already, but all of the great players from the past did these things and that is why everyone remembers them.
Not to be a sap, but the good guys do finish first and are remembered. Please don't confuse this with the motto of "nice guys finish last" as this is rarely the case. As a word of advice, if you want to be remembered in the same light as the others, then continue with your strong gaming qualities, but add these other qualities that have helped others in the past.

I'll have to agree with Pic on this one. I have no idea as well why some feel the same way about AK47. I know for a fact that on at least three of AK's wins he had people gunning for him and he still came out on top! Based on only my four plus years here that puts AK47 in the top five. AK, just don't let it get to you.
I cannot even start to say I would be able to cut a list of the 5 best players out of the list of great players that have been here during my time. Infact in all honesty to even say something like that in my humble opinion is foolish.
This being said AK, as far as simply winning goes the records say it all. Your there and no-one can take that away from you (without winning more rounds than you). Your wins have also been honourable, which alot of people respect above just winning.
HOWEVER I cannot honestly say I would even compare you to Ben, or others in other aspects of the game. Everyone has their own specialty. Hence why trying to list a small group of people as the "best" is so difficult.
As for Pic's comment I honestly believe a little more discression would have gone down a little better there dude. :) Most of us know your opinion. :) Alot of us do respect it too, but you dont need to rub it in faces :P

ak i think most reason they don't is they have hard time seeing you beat some of those old guys. specially when other olbies not around that gave them run for the money. for you it bites as we have lost the very good players from years ago back when there was 8+ very good clans and you never had a clue who would win till the end of the round. you do a good job against the new era of players. i have no t seen anyone from beta play the game and try to win in a long time i don't even attempt to play enough cept now and then to maybe hit the top 50 which last attempt i did with ease which means the caliber of player we have now is not up to scratch most times i would have to give up rl to play this game and rank tis sad that can miss few hunderd turns and still get in top 50. but i will list you as top dog for new era player.
