Okay, I was in the chat room with Blake today. W few of us were have an inappropriate conversation in the chat. Blake yelled at us, because it is suppose to be a "family friendly site". I agree with him giving out the mutes he did. So, this made me think of something. I was wondering if we can have an "Anything Goes" type channel. No mutes, no disciplinary actions. You enter the channel at your own risk. We can swear, insult people, and others. Somewhat of an "adult" room of the sort. That way, we can talk about things because most of us that are in the chat, are adults. So, we should be able to talk about what we want. If you don't want to read swears, or non-family friendly talk, then don't enter the room. The whole channel would just make it so we don't get muted every five seconds, and make it so the admins/mods don't fear entering a channel and worry about what we are talking about every five seconds.

That was my help ticket I submitted. Feel free to comment.

The ONLY problem I can see with this is regulation of age, however I do know most peoples general age area for most of the folks who come to NN lol, don't ask me how, I just do.

And from what I've gathered, the minors are the minority. By far.

But, the channel is an enter at your own risk. You don't HAVE to enter. It'll be more of an adult chat, and if a kid WANTS to enter, let them. They probably talk bad anyways.

A good way to not get muted every five minutes is to look at what you're typing.

personally I think this suggestion is just an excuse to get around disciplinary action for those that most often incure such action against themselves.

Not to mention even if its labeled as "enter at your own risk" minors will still enter the room because thats where the people would be... And as this is a family friendly site that would lead to us having to regulate what went on in this proposed room.

I understand what you are saying, FS. But, do you HONESTLY expect Joe, Mike, Jason, Me, etc. to keep it PG rated all the time? I listed these four names, because we are the starters of bad conversations. Sometimes, bad conversations just happen. We can't help it, and we get yelled at, and it gets annoying. 75% of those names are above 18. Can you expect us to be good ALL the time?

Make an IRC channel. Go on MSN. Go on AIM. Go on YIM. Go on Vent. Go on whatever.

That said, I have never understood why NN is so strict with content. I see millions of sites which allow adult content and don't get complaints or sued, so what is NN afraid of? Advertising a site as family friendly is absurd when the Internet is basically the opposite of wholesome family values. Attracting visitors is a moot point at this stage in NN's life, and since EVERYBODY on this site is either over 18 or has no problem with adult content, I see no reason to keep the "family friendly" designation. Stop warning people for obscene posts. Stop warning for insults. Stop warning for anything except cheating and server abuse.

They say NN is a "Family-Oriented" site. Nations is a game based off war. "War games" don't always tend to bring the greatest(Or "Family-Friendly") audience in. And not many kids nowadays are even interested in games or sites like this. This site and the games are oldschool, and aside from all the minor changes it has had, it hasn't really evolved at all. NN is targetting an audience that isn't targetting them.

This is a family friendly site to everyone but the adults.

A majority of the players here are adults and would like to be able to talk about anything we want without having to worry about reprecussions and i dont see what the real problem is in creating another room with a warning box before you can enter.

Assuming some points, I.E new games and an youtube like fuction.
We will get new blood, depend on how this site will be remarketed we WILL get alot of kids.
So when the new blood comes "evil laugh" we will need to be moderated.

Now how hard is it to create an external chat on a site like meebo, and you guys all perv it up in there? not to hard.

and when you label something as off limits to a minor what do they try to do? they try to get in.
maybe we are not a healthy site for kids, but why shouldnt we try to be? are we all so far gone, that we dont care about the upbringing of the next generation?

The majority of the world's youth is 3x worse then most of the adults. If a kid wants to see some porn, hes only a "click if youre 18+" away from it.

I understand the desire to cater to the children of nn, how about you cater to the adults who play as well.

Now I know why I left this site....

The people here are really immature. When I go out with friends, we don't sit around talking about sex. Why should it be any different here. Those here over 18 that feel they need to sit in front of the computer chatting to others about sex really need to grow up.

Those under 18 are excused. they can't help their hormones :P

I have to agree with SS on that one.

theres like 5 people here who are under the age of 18...i understand if there were actually children here but theres not, late teens and adults are the only kind of people around here and if people are gonna get all pissy becouse were talking about something "inappropriate" then they could just leave the chat. Besides theres alot of worse stuff out there then a bit of foul language, and theres a reason people tell there children to get permission or be supervised online.

finally, since when has foul language EVER hurt anyone "OMG he said the F word, the world is gonna blow up!"

Yeah and most those under 18 still joined NN years ago when they were younger. Heck, I was like 13-14 when I first came to this site, but that was in like 2000-2001... I doubt kids at this age and time are going to be looking for boring click-fests like TL and WaR2, or a graphicless/turn based game like Nations.

So much negativity yet the majority of you still come to this site on a daily basis.

I realize I will probably get torn a new one for what I'm about to say given my position but it has to be said.

If this site is half as bad as all of you make it out to be then leave and don't come back. There is no point in any of you coming here anymore you have obviously drilled that in to your minds but for some reason you all wake up in the morning and decide to login to NetNexus. Now I know some of you are going to come out with the "I come on here just to talk to people." Well let me save you the trouble by saying don't waste your time in typing up that post because most if not all of you keep in touch through MSN, Facebook, Myspace, whatever you use nowadays anyways.

Just go away.

FS, no one said the games were terrible or even bad. Simply that they aren't what attracts most new, and especially younger, people. I enjoy playing Nations, but do you really think it can compete with commercial games (ie Wow) or all the flash games around these days? Besides, why is your reaction always to tell the users to shut up and go away?

I understand you guys wanting looser rules in chat. Although I'm not in nearly as much as I used to be, I'm going to assume things aren't much different. The problem is that things get taken WAY too far in chat. I've been guilty of it, and most people posting here are guilty of it. Maybe if it wasn't so over the top there would be a greater likelihood of you being able to just go to your own channel, or chat, or whatever you want.

I didn't even say the games were terrible or bad... I didn't even tell anyone to shut up. So please don't put words in to my mouth.

All I'm doing is looking at this through straight common sense. If half these people dislike this place as much as they say then why stay? Creating threads like this doesn't help anything... All it does is stir up the community and cause trouble.

It certainly doesn't do anything for new users who come along and read threads like this and sit there and think to themselves "Oh.. Well this site is crap I don't wanna be here."

It would take what...5 minutes of coding to add in an "Anything Goes" chat room.

How about instead of simply saying "go away" you explain why this request is so outrageous or why it requires such heated responses?

Seriously FS, a mod telling people to leave a half-dying site is not exactly the best course of action.

And the current chat is so boring, nothing interesting happens anymore =s

I find the whole "family-friendly" thing so hilarious because mostly who does the non-"family friendly" talk are exactly the poor innoncent kids who supposedly have their mind warped beyond repair upon seeing the word "sex".

As this sites greatest and most popular member, it's sad that I can say that it pains me everytime I come back to NN. I used to come around for a good time, now I come around to see what's changed, waiting for Julianus. I don't even go in the chat anymore.

Forgive me if I misquote or say something that was not stated. I didn't really read this thread. I simply skimmed and these are my thoughts. And please remember, this is all opinion.

Leave FS Alone. Stop putting words into his mouth. He already knows what he has said and its effects. So stop acting like complete idiots forever. That goes for everybody.

As for this site's well being... Well, my opinion is that the games and there "boringness" have no effect. Games do not get more boring if they do not change. And the admin team is obviously changing things around in Nations and, once, TL.

Also, please understand to most of you people who, as stated, lack common sense. This website is quite old. It goes into the decades of age. Throughout the last decade or two, gaming has changed. It has gone from browser based clickers to 3D MMORPGs and more. In response to whoever said that NetNexus needs a younger audience, tell me. How the hell can a something old appeal to a young audience? It's quite hard unless NN shifts its ways to a newer age of "gaming site" which includes some sort of system similar to those you see in Runescape, MobWars, or something else of similar stupidity (IMO).

In regards to the administrative team, stop bashing them to whoever is bashing them. In mine eyes, they are doing absolutely nothing wrong. You can not expect them to drop everything and work on NetNexus. They work when they have free time on whatever they are assigned. If you don't like what they are doing, then suggest alternatives! If none of them are helpful, then suggest something that is helpful. If you can not, then sit and deal with your idiocy.

From my views of the flow of new and old users into this site (there are suggestions hinted in this), here's what I have to say. I've noticed that minigames based upon real games have good user flow. Terran Legacy for example. There were a hell of a lot of players that came to NN because of TL. How? They google searched "Starcraft Browser Games" and found NetNexus. Nations I am not too sure about. Nations beta attracted a lot of the old TL players because it was a beta. Hell, I myself love beta testing things. I will play the crappiest game in closed or open beta in the world just to say that I tested it. I believe that War2 had its own audience of people who enjoyed the genre of that game (A google search for "Browser Based RPG", for example). The other games on this site were simply failures. VGX, LotGD, Julianus, and currently, WvsV. AD failed because its creator left. WoM was in between. Why did these fail? Simply because they were not updated. VGX was almost never updated and sometimes didn't work right. LotGD was updated once or twice, which then attracted a flow of users to play, but once it stopped, they stopped. Julianus was beta tested, but never finished, but you could see the amount of users that awaited it. People bought VIP just to test that. WvsV was never finished, neither was WoM. AD has been stated. Even TL has basically died. That occurred because TL wasn't updated. I was amazed how many users played TL after Jon's reset. Astonished. But what happened? No updates except a few new monsters, which really doesn't do anything to a game like that. Then it died again. Then you can look at Nations. Nations is consistently updated with new content such as missiles and new styles of gameplay, which is why it continues to attract new and old players.

So now I can see how people can blame the administrative team for not updating, but you have to understand that it isn't there first job to code and update things in NN.

And as for chat and being boring (I'm pretty sure I saw this posted somewhere in the thread), well, all I have to say to that person is try to get anybody who goes into to chat to AFK to leave chat. I tried it once and failed. But I believe that most people who go into chat, just go to AFK and that's what makes it boring. It sickens me when I enter chat full of 10 people and then see that 9 of them are AFK.

Finally, in regards to a new "adult" chat channel. Use MSN or AIM if you feel the need to talk "dirty" to somebody. And most inappropriate things can be worded appropriately. Just be smart. Use your brains.

/end rant

All you said was "Leave the staff alone! They aren't gods!"

And uh, Red. People AFK leaving the chat wouldn't exactly make it more... lively...
Chat is boring and uninteresting with Big Brother watching over you, that's all. Why would I go to a place where I need to watch what I say, when I can just go elsewhere where I can actually talk casually? Come on.

Red- part of the reason nations is slowly dying is because it hasnt gotten any updates, nothing really gets fixed..if something is bugged it usually just gets removed..missiles...techies...

I want to point something out..if we had the logs for this kind of thing, the most "active" chatters are usually the most frequently "muted". Alot of us come in here to talk to friends, dunno about you, but sometimes the topics we discuss or the language we use gets a bit worse then "g-rated".

Its not our intent to infringe upon a minor's innocent mind, simply us wanting to chat with our friends the way we want to. Yes we can go to msn, or aim, but all that will do is reaaaally kill the chat, i mean..anytime im in chat here is usually who you find:

Me, nata, jing, wolfblack, dn, elm, leroy, and a few otheres who pop their heads in every now and again.

Here is my question for everyone:

Are you worried about minors accidnetally walking into an adult chat, or more worried that the adult chat will become the more widely used one?

I dont think it would take much effort for the admins to code a new chat in, and if the player base really wants one..why shouldnt we get one?
